PUR Flavor Options review and giveaway

Thanks to PUR's PR Rep. Lindsay through The Product Review Place for giving me the opportunity to try out this product on my family and offer one for a giveaway for a lucky reader!

Raise your hand if you buy bottled water? How about flavored water packets? Would you like a filtered water pitcher for your fridge that also includes flavors? Thanks to PUR Water filtration system's new Flavor Options you can have just that! This innovative product was voted PRODUCT OF THE YEAR 2009 for Consumer Survey of Products Innovation!

We buy bottle water because the kiddos think that our water taste like the local lake. I think it smells like the lake but the taste doesn't seem to bother me. What concerns me the most is that if it taste and smells like the lake how clean is it?

I've never done a water sample test. I was told to try the “white washcloth test”. It is where you wrap a white washcloth around your faucet with a rubber band and let it run for five minutes. It’s basically a yuck-factor test because, depending on how old your pipes are,
it can be kind of gross at the end.

PUR water filter pitchers
reduces many of the pharmaceuticals found in U.S. tap water. I was grossed out to find out the 5 different categories of medicine these filters reduce up to 96%! What about the other categories of medicines?? I know PUR is on the forefront working to reduce this waste in our tap water.

*The categories of medications include: Hormones (like prednisone, progesterone, testosterone), Antibiotics (tablet and IV forms), Antidepressants (used to treat depressio
n and other mental/mood disorders) Anti-anxiety (used to relieve nervousness or tension) and Painkillers (ibuprofen and naproxen).

The PUR pitcher also removes 98% of le
ad and reduces many other water contaminants yet keeps in the fluoride! The filter is a 2-Stage filtration and removes twice as many contaminants as the Brita water pitcher.

You can save over $600 a year by using the PUR system too! Two thumbs up here on saving money! I really didn't mind buying the bottled water for my family because they would drink it. I didn't mind
using it in my coffee pot. What I didn't care about was spending the money for it and then tossing the bottles.

To find out that the average savings of using the PUR pitcher is 1/10th the cost of buying bottled water I no longer felt a need to buy the bottled water. The girls have been filling up their bottles from home too. This pitcher also has a built in indicator to let me know when to chang
e the filter!!! This is a really cool feature!Last but not least on our family review is the new Flavor Options! We do love flavored water. Each cartridge is for up to 75 servings and doesn't contain dyes, sugar or calories. We tried the lemon, raspberry and peach. I keep checking my store for the grape. No one liked the lemon in my house. We aren't big lemon water drinkers so I'm assuming that is the reason. I've read other reviews and they loved the lemon. The raspberry and peach were the best so far! I personally didn't have this problem but a few of the girls said that they tasted a little bit of the flavoring when just drinking the plain water if someone used the flavor cartridge right before they poured their water. I tried this myself with the peach and raspberry and didn't get the flavoring.

Childhood Nightmare or Past Life Memory?

Thanks to FSB Associates for the article! Check back in a few days for a Giveaway of the book, Soul Survivor!!!!

Childhood Nightmare or Past Life Memory?
by Andrea Leininger,
Co-Author of Soul Survivor: The Reincarnation of a World War II Fighter Pilot

Bringing a baby into your family is a joyful experience, filled with hope and promise for a bright and happy future. That first year is filled with learning about all your child’s developmental milestones, and having those twinges of concern when your child doesn’t reach all of them according to the time frames established in the books and websites you spend hours poring over. Yet while the child development resources teach us about what to look for in our children’s physical, emotional, and mental growth, as well as the red flags indicating when there may be cause for concern, there is one area I have never seen addressed in the countless resources I’ve studied, and that is how to determine if your child might be experiencing a Past Life Memory.

Of the endless things we worry about encountering when we have a new baby, this is surely an issue that wouldn’t even cross our minds unless we had experienced it before. Autism, Down’s Syndrome, Deafness? All common concerns among new parents. But a Past Life Memory? It never occurred to me. That is, until my son turned two and started having nightmares and talking about the life of a man who died in a burning plane.

My book, Soul Survivor – The Reincarnation of a World War II fighter pilot, chronicles the events my family experienced when my then two-year old son James began experiencing a past life memory. I remember the frustration I felt at the time as I tried to research what it was my son was experiencing, and how to help him. Most of the books I read about reincarnation were dry and clinical, and offered me little assistance in dealing with my son. Fortunately, I was given Carol Bowman’s wonderful book Children’s Past Lives, and I finally received the guidance I’d been searching for.

Having lived through this experience and hearing from countless parents whose children have similar stories, I believe that Past Life Memory in children is a fairly common occurrence. Many parents, unaware of the issue of Past Life Memory, may attribute their child’s fears or comments to ordinary factors or an over-active imagination. While in many instances that may be true, knowing what signs and behaviors to look for is crucial in evaluating your own child’s situation and helping them deal with this little-known phenomenon.

If you’re reading this, chances are you suspect your child may be experiencing a Past Life Memory and are looking for guidance. I’ve compiled the following list of behaviors that may indicate this is what you’re dealing with. Please read it carefully and check which items apply to your situation:

1. Vivid, recurring dreams or nightmares.

2. Unexplained fears or phobias.

3. Unusual talent or giftedness.

4. Knowledge of items, machinery, or processes from another era that they would have no way of knowing.

5. Talking openly about life in a different time.

6. Speaking in a foreign language or with a foreign accent they have not been exposed to.

7. Looking for an item or person they are convinced they had or knew, but you know that item or person never existed.

8. Repeatedly drawing a recurring scene, event, people, or items that are not a part of their daily life and which they could not be aware of.

9. Spontaneously reading or writing.

10. Suddenly speaking with much more clarity and a broader vocabulary than used on a daily basis.

If your child has experienced any of these behaviors, you may be dealing with a Past Life Memory. If so, I would advise you to take the matter seriously, and start keeping a detailed journal of events and statements as they occur. More than likely your child will make these statements randomly using a matter-of-fact tone, and more often than not, there will be something that triggers the statement. Your child may or may not be open to discussing the comment once it’s made, but remaining calm and keeping the tone conversational will go a long way towards getting your child engaged in conversation with you.

When you ask questions, ask only open-ended questions that don’t provide any information. For example, your daughter is watching you peel potatoes, and suddenly says “Mommy, when I lived before, I was a boy and we used to grow potatoes on a farm.” Say “That’s interesting! Where was your potato farm?” rather than “Was your potato farm in Idaho or in Ireland?” That way you can be certain your child is coming up with the details themselves, and isn’t just repeating what you said.

Unfortunately, very little is known about the phenomenon of past life memory in children, but if parents keep an open mind, listen to their children, and start chronicling these events as they occur, we may soon have a much broader understanding about the eternal journey of the human spirit.

In Search of America's Best Red Velvet Cake

This article was given to me to post on my blog. Thanks to Anna at FSB Associates.
In Search of America's Best Red Velvet Cake
By Laura Dave
Author of The Divorce Party: A Novel
A little over eighteen months ago, I undertook a crazy person's assignment: I set out to find the Best Red Velvet Cake in America. I began tasting cakes everywhere from Seattle to Springfield to Santa Fe. And I began working on a list of criteria for judgment: something a little more refined than my normal "yum" scale. I contacted a lot of chefs, bakers, bakery managers, and various Red Velvet experts (AKA: Mom and her friends) in order to develop a list of qualities to assess. Sadly, for me, their answers were so wide and varied as to what was most essential to an ideal Red Velvet, I began longing for the "yum" scale. How could all these things matter -- and matter so much: The benefits of using cherries versus beet juice, the amount of red food coloring, the precise ratio of buttermilk to sugar to vinegar. I have baked (and eaten) my fair share of cakes, but I was learning quickly that Red Velvets were not an eye-it type of operation. James Beard's American Cookery references three distinct types of Red Velvets. And don't get a Red Velvet baker started on the complications of frosting. I can now write, with full confidence, a thesis paper on the advantage of cream-cheese frosting over a pure butter icing; and one on why a butter icing is more authentic than its sugary-vanilla counterpart.

But, perhaps, I should first explain what has spurred this mission. In my latest novel, The Divorce Party, Red Velvet Cake plays a pivotal role. The novel focuses on a family on the Eastern end of Long Island -- who have lived in the beautiful town of Montauk for generations -- and who now are struggling to hold themselves (and their home) together during a defining weekend, in which the oldest son brings his fiancée to visit for the first time. An unconventional party is at the center of the weekend. And, at the center of the party, is one pristine and delicious Red Velvet Cake. But people's passion for the cake has shown me that I can't think about the cake as just part of The Divorce Party's story. In my search for The Best Red Velvet, I've learned that this cake has it's own story . . . and it is an emotional one.

There is an urban legend that, mid-century, a baker at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel baked the very first Red Velvet Cake. According to the legend, a customer at the restaurant requested the recipe for the unique cake, and was billed hundreds of dollars. In retribution, she spread the recipe to all of her friends. It is a charming story, but a legend from start to finish. The real history of the cake's origin seems to begin somewhere in the 1920s in the American South. Exactly who was responsible? That is still a matter of debate. And all versions I've heard are full of emotion. My favorite -- and the one I utilized in my novel -- revolves around a Southern baker who wanted to create a cake that symbolized the contrast between good and evil: the good represented by the lily, white frosting, the evil represented by the red cake. She wanted to make a cake that would have an emotional impact on those who ate it, even if they didn't completely understand why.

And while I'm afraid to name a current front-runner in my own search, I will say that I keep that first baker in mind as I try different options: like the wonderful piece of Red Velvet I recently ate at a quaint restaurant in the Eagle Rock section of Los Angeles called Auntie Em's Kitchen.

Can I tell you why I enjoyed it so much? Maybe not. But I'm working on it. And I promise it's not just a yum thing. It's an emotional one.

Back to School Care for maturing girls Review and Giveaway

Mom's know what "it" is and they have to somehow share "it" with their daughter. I know the first time I had to share "it" with my daughters I wasn't sure how much information to share. We had books that we read as they aged so that they were prepared as to the changes that they were facing but not the actual "it".

I'm sure I fumbled the first talk but we got through it together. I didn't have a mom to tell me these things when I was growing up. Most things I learned were in school during health videos. I still remember the boys and girls were separated and I wanted to know what the boys were being told!

I found that when it comes time to talk about your girls first period you want to share what is needed and add more as time goes on. Just when I was thinking this because I have one more to talk too I found a gem of a company on Facebook. They are The Dot Girl Products. A perfect company if you have a daughter between the ages of 8-12 years.
Their Mission:
Our goal at Dot Girl First Period Products is that every girl has a positive first period experience and an empowered first step to womanhood. We offer parents and daughters products that support the changes girls experience during puberty.

I really like The Dot Girl's First Period Kit! This made telling my last daughter about her "it" period so much easier. It became her personal kit that she could have and look through on her own once we went over it. She loves reading and this was perfect and simple for her to explore. She loved having the little case to keep it all together. It is just the right size to toss in a backpack.
I do think that this is the perfect Back To School Kit! As your young girl heads back to school she will find more girl friends who have started their period over the summer. She will be prepared with the right information and speak up to help others with the correct information. I never wanted my girls to fear what was coming. If they are informed then they can embrace what is coming and accept it. It still is something we don't just discuss at the dinner table but we are more open to ask questions and know that they will be answered.
THANKS to The Mom Dot Sisters, Terri and Kathy for providing a kit for me to review! The also created other wonderful products like bras and undies! These are two well informed ladies! The are also contribute information at www.kotex.com. I suggest that you as a mom check out that site before sending your daughter there. I really felt confidant sharing this kit with my daughter.

The Dot Girl’s First Period Kit is available on their site (www.dotgirlproducts.com) for $22.99 and includes the following items:
