Share your favorite PEEPS moment!

Raise your hand if you LOVE PEEPS! Which season of PEEPS are your favorite? Share you memories and recipes with us!

I have fond memories as a kid getting the cute lil' chicks in my Easter basket!  I, of course, passed that tradition on to my daughters.  They have no clue what life was like back in the 70s & 80s because back then we only had the PEEPS chicks. I do believe that the bunnies could be purchased when I was a kid but I always remember getting bright yellow chicks!

As for these crazy modern times, PEEPS seem to pop out for all the top candy buying holidays!  Peeps are out at Valentine's Day, Halloween, Christmas, Easter and more? I'm not sure but I think I saw American Flag peeps once!  Which are your favorites??  Which PEEPS have you seen?  Is there a PEEP out there that you wish they made?
My most favorite peeps moment was last year when my brother-in-law came for a visit.  He was 20 at the time and a junior in college.  You can imagine his maturity level being less that the maturity level of my tween & teen daughters.  He is real close in age with my girls and so they have always shared good times together growing up.  His visit was in the spring so the evenings were cool  which always means BONFIRE!
All of us were sitting out around the fire talking, laughing, making & eating smores.  Next thing I knew, the Easter PEEPS where out and in the fire! Uncle Brian, Mr. Firebug, encouraged and I'm certain spear-headed the entire plan!

We were now making smores with the peeps!  I do have to admit, though, that PEEPS as a smore is TASTY!  I think they have a higher sugar content than just plain, boring marshmallows. Before I knew it, they were putting one PEEP in the fire at a time so they could see the peep grow and burn.  It really was funny but I felt so sad for the lil' chicks and bunnies.
It seems, now we have a new PEEP tradition at our home especially when Uncle Brian comes for a visit!!!!  I hope you enjoyed the photos! I just happen to have a few on my cell phone! Of course for 2011 the cell phone pictures aren't so great but you get the gist of our fun!
One of our newest tradition is to make and share PEEPS Treats in a jar!  These are great for the kids to make and pass out to teachers, girl scout leaders, Sunday school teacher and more!  Enjoy!

Brown Butter Cereal Bars with Candied Bacon

Ingredients

1 lb bacon
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup butter (no substitutions)
1 1/2 bags (10 oz each) marshmallows
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon coarse Kosher salt
6 cups rice Chex® cereal
6 cups corn Chex® cereal

Directions

Heat oven to 400°F. Line broiler pan or 10x15 pan with parchment paper or foil. Place bacon on pan in single layer. Sprinkle with half of the brown sugar. Bake 9 to 11 minutes until the sugar is dissolved. Turn bacon over, sprinkle with remaining brown sugar. Bake an additional 10 minutes or until bacon is crisp and sugar is melted. Set aside to cool, finely chop.

In 5 quart dutch oven melt butter on medium heat, stirring frequently until it turns golden brown and begins to smell nutty. Add in marshmallows, stir until melted. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla, salt and finely chopped candied bacon until well incorporate. Gently stir in cereal, until well coated.

Spoon into 13x9-inch glass baking dish sprayed with cooking spray. Wet your hands slightly with water and press the mixture evenly into the pan. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Cut into small (1-inch) bite sized pieces.

#Win $25 GC and Barber Seasoned Selects with some #dinnerdrama

Do you ever have "Dinner Drama?"  I know that we all have had some so don't deny it! haha  My greatest "dinner drama" issues are usually related to not planning enough time to get something prepared or trying out a new recipe and it flops.  The worse part about a recipe flop  is that most of the time there isn't a back up plan.  I can think of one time we had to go out to eat because of a flop recipe and no time for back up food to be prepared.

I'm really good with planning out our meals.  This has taken years to get right but it is the only way this momma can function in the kitchen.  The saying "if you fail to plan then you plan to fail" always rings in my head when I let the grocery shopping day slip by and I'm digging in the freezer, fridge and pantry for a suitable throw together meal.  I don't like haphazard meal time and try and avoid it to the max!

I am a Mom who likes to make most of the food that I prepare.  I do find myself grabbing for some frozen items to have on hand when needed.  With tween & teens at home and their random friends who happen to be here for snack and lunch time, I do keep easy to make items on hand like pizza rolls & chicken patties.   As for dinner, If I purchase something frozen that is the main meal or side dish, most likely I planned that into my menu.
Just recently I found Barber Seasoned Selects chicken breast as one of those dinner go to items. My family tried the Chicken Cordon Bleu and Chicken Broccoli & Cheese.  They ate all their food!  I was super impressed that they like the Cordon Bleu. I made this years ago and they didn't like it.  So now I have something new to serve them.   The Chicken Seasoned Selects cook in less than 30 minutes!  While the chicken cooked, I tossed together rest of the meal!

There was NO dinner drama with this meal! yay!  I'm going to keep these lil' guys on hand so I can cook some 30 minute meals!  Most of all, I was SHOCKED to find these at my local store.  I live in a small town and seem to never find anything fun like this!
