Tricia Goyer’s Praying for Your Future Husband

Are you intentional about seeking God's desire for your future? Then pray for your husband-to-be! Sharing personal stories, insightful reflections, practical applications, relevant Scripture, and heartfelt petitions, Robin Jones Gunn and Tricia Goyer encourage you to begin your loving relationship with your spouse by supporting him in prayer---even if you haven't met him yet.

Praying for Your Future Husband: Preparing Your Heart for His
Book Jacket:

From when we were small girls, most of us dream of “The One,” our future husband. We think about what it would be like to be a bride. We wonder who that special guy is and when we'll find him. The great news is that what you do now can make a difference in your life and the life of your future husband!
Authors and good friends Robin Jones Gunn (Christy Miller series) and Tricia Goyer (author and former teen mom) believe God answers women's prayers for husbands—even husbands they may not meet for years. They invite young women to pray boldly for their future mate … while also asking God to prepare their own hearts.
In Praying for Your Future Husband, Robin and Tricia share their two vastly different experiences, including the things they did right and the mistakes they made on the path to meeting and marrying their husbands. Each chapter includes helpful Bible verses, prayers, and practical application, along with true stories of women who prayed for a husband and how God answered in remarkable ways.

Scraps of Life Book Review: I was excited at the opportunity to read this book for two reasons. First off, I was familiar with the authors work and eager to read more. Secondly, I'm the mom of three girls. This book really hit home. I appreciated the honesty of the authors. They both opened up and shared their stories of their life which included the mistakes and the right turns along the way. I loved the practical, hands on information given for the reader to follow along and it bridges a gap in the mother-daughter relationship when it comes to discussing dating and seeking a life long commitment to one man.

This is a wonderful book for a mom to read and then pass along to her unmarried daughter. I look forward to sharing this with my daughters. Thank you, Robin and Tricia for writing this book.

FREE on NOOK and Kindle: Sixteen Brides by Stephanie Grace Whitson

Sixteen Brides
*I just found out that this book is free for NOOK, Kindle and Sony ereader. I'm not sure how long it will last so go check it out. I read the book last year and the review is listed below.

Remember you don't need a NOOK or Kindle to read these books. You can read them on your computer or your phone.

From the publisher, Bethany House:   In 1872, sixteen Civil War widows living in St. Louis respond to a series of meetings conducted by a land speculator who lures them west by promising "prime homesteads" in a "booming community." Unbeknownst to them, the speculator's true motive is to find an excuse to bring women to the fledgling community of Plum Grove, Nebraska, in hopes they will accept marriage proposals shortly after their arrival!
Sparks fly when these unsuspecting widows meet the men who are waiting for them. These women are going to need all the courage and faith they can muster to survive these unwanted circumstances--especially when they begin to discover that none of them is exactly who she appears to be.

MY TAKE ON THE BOOK:  What a great read! I love historical fiction.  The author beautifully told a story of life for women after the Civil War.  Many with whom lost their husbands due to the War.  The custom was that women were not to be alone, couldn't take care of building a home or having a hard labor job.  This group of women showed the men in this new town that they could take care of their own business and that they didn't need to be a bride unless they chose to be one.  Of course, over half the group were thrilled to come into a town and get married right away.  They needed that comfort of having a mate right away.
The author was doing research for another book when she ran across a headline "Another cargo of war widows arrived..." which was just the spark needed to get this book going. She took on 5 women's stories and wove them into a delightful read!  I definitely recommend this for Young Adult and up (13 and older) and will have my daughters read this book.

About the Author:
Stephanie Grace Whitson, bestselling author and two time Christy Award finalist, pursues a full-time writing and speaking career from her home studio in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her husband and blended family, her church, quilting, and Kitty--her motorcycle--all rank high on her list of "favorite things". Visit www.stephaniegracewhitson.com

The book was sent for me to review. The words under MY TAKE ON THE BOOK are of my own tasty words and opinions.

National Ice Cream Sandwich Day Recipes

I scream You scream We all SCREAM for ICE CREAM! Who can resist ice cream? Not many people can resist it during these HOT SUMMER months. Today is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day and I thought that we should share it together, drooling over a few recipes.

I've made this tasty waffle recipe from Friendship Bread Kitchen many times. We all LOVE them. We used the leftover waffles to make waffle ice cream sandwiches. Doesn't it make you want to eat one? To make the recipe, just make these amish friendship bread waffles or use your own favorite waffle recipe and scoop on some ice cream. Add strawberry jam to our vanilla ice cream. These really are so good and a super easy treat. Make waffles for breakfast and then use the extra for an afternoon or after dinner treat. They are great to make up ahead of time and freeze for later, too.

How about you? What is your favorite ice cream sandwich?
