Six Sisters' STUFF Recipes and Cookbook Review Giveaway

One of my favorite blogs, Six Sisters' STUFF is at it again! They have put together another tasty book full of 52 Menu Plans, Recipes, and Ideas To Bring Families Together! Not only is this a cookbook but it is full of fun family crafts and party ideas. This book is called, "A Year with Six Sisters' Stuff" and you don't want to miss a day of it! I was given a copy of the cookbook to review and share recipes with permission. My own tasty words are shared.

I fell in love with this book because each day, for 52 weeks there is a set of recipes with mouth-watering photos to make for my family and friends. I wanted to pick out a few recipes to cook and share for you but had a difficult time narrowing it down because we wanted to eat everything in this book. We will probably eat our way through this book for 2014.

I decided to just pick a menu and cook that and chose Menu #24. When I went shopping my local store didn't have zucchini for the side dish so we picked Menu #33 side dish. I love how easy it is to use this cookbook. All the recipes seem to be really quick to make and for the most part easy ingredients to find unless you live in a tiny town like I do.

I loved all the easy craft projects, too! I have several that I will be making and sharing over the next week or so! Check back in to see the fun. We were inspired by the "Crazy Dinner" tradition, Thankful Tablecloth, Personalized Plates and the 52 Family Dinner Conversation Starters. The book is stuffed with much much more!

Enjoy the Six Sisters' STUFF tasty recipes. Menu plan 24 gave us Homemade Turkey Meatball Subs, Baked Zucchini Fries and M & M's Cookie Pie. I'll also share BBQ Mac Salad (Menu 33) and Honey Lime Fruit Salad (Menu 22.)

Honey Lime Fruit Salad - my family LOVED this and my teen added the leftovers into the blender with ice and made a fruit slushy!

Ingredients
1 -20 oz can pineapple chunks, drained well
1-4 oz can Mandarin oranges, drained well
2-3 ripe kiwis, peeled and sliced
1 cup halved grapes
1 cup quartered strawberries
Zest from one lime, about 1 Tbsp
1 tsp poppy seeds
2 Tbsp honey

Directions
Combine fruit in a medium-large serving bowl. Add lime zest and poppy seeds, toss gently. Drizzle honey over fruit and gently mix, until fruit is evenly coated with honey. Serve.
Note: This fruit is best served right away (or at least within an hour of making) because the strawberries tend to stain the pale colored fruit. It doesn't affect the taste at all, but it can affect the presentation. Makes 6 servings.

BBQ Macaroni Salad - We loved the KICK of the sauce with this macaroni salad! New favorite.

Ingredients
1 -16 oz box elbow macaroni
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup bbq sauce
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp hot sauce
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 red bell pepper, seeded and finely chopped
1 rib celery, finely chopped
1/2 cup cubed cucumber
1/2 cup shredded carrots
2 Tbsp finely chopped green onions
4 Tbsp finely chopped purple onion
1/2 cup Colby Jack cheese, cubed

Directions
Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain the noodles, rinse in cold water an drain again. In a large bowl, combine mayonnaise, bbq sauce, seasonings, hot sauce, and vinegar. Add the drained noodles, chopped veggies, and cheese. Stir to combine and refrigerate before serving. Makes 12 servings.

M&M's Cookie Pie - Teens loved this with and without ice cream

Ingredients
3/4 cup butter, room temperature
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup plus 1 Tbsp all purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 cups mini M&Ms

Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease a 9 1/2 inch pie plate; set aside. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. Add in egg and vanilla and mix well. In a separate bowl, combine flour and baking soda. Add flour mixture to batter and mix until completely incorporated. Fold in M&Ms. Pour and spread batter into prepared pie pan and bake 25-30 min. or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool and cut into slices. Makes 8 servings.

Homemade Turkey Meatball Subs - This was well loved and I made it in the crockpot

Ingredients
1 lb ground turkey
1/2 cup dried bread crumbs (I left out)
1 tsp dried basil, oregano and parsley
1/2 tsp garlic salt (used garlic powder)
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg (left out)
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp Montreal steak seasoning (left out)
1 -24oz jar marinara sauce
16 slices provolone cheese
8 buns or sandwich rolls

Directions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. In a large bowl, mix together everything except sauce, cheese & rolls. Form into 1 1/2 inch meatballs and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake 15 min, or until cooked through.
Place split buns on a baking tray and top each half with 2 slices provolone cheese. Preheat oven to broil and lightly toast buns until golden brown and cheese has melted.
Warm marinara sauce in a large saucepan over low-med. heat or in the microwave, until heated through.
To the bottom half of each toasted bun with 3-4 meatballs, cover in marinara sauce and replace the top half of each buns. Makes 8.

Kitchen Note- I added a small amount of the sauce to the bottom of a crockpot and added the meatballs on top. Then rest of the sauce. Cook on high for 2 hours or until meatballs are done. Then served them as stated above.

I hope you enjoyed these few recipes from the Six Sisters' STUFF "A Year with Six Sisters' Stuff" new book.  It really is a tasty cookbook so go buy it! I'm excited to add this to my cookbook collection! I will be buying copies of this for new brides and busy moms!

{Six Sisters Stuff Cookbook} Slow Cooker Hot Fudge Brownies

Six Sisters STUFF blog created a yummy cookbook and this recipe, Slow Cooker Hot Fudge Brownies is from that book. Check out more of their recipes and this cookbook in an early post.

Slow Cooker Hot Fudge Brownies

2 cups brownie mix
1 egg
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/4 cup water
1/3 cup milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
3/4 cup boiling water
Chocolate frosting (optional)
Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Combine brownie mix, egg, oil, water and chocolate chips in a bowl. Spread batter in a greased 3-4 quart slow cooker. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, cocoa, and boiling water, making sure to completely dissolve sugar and cocoa. Pour over batter. Cover and cook 2 hours on high heat. Turn off slow cooker and let sit for 30 minutes. Spoon into bowls and serve with ice cream and hot fudge. Refrigerate leftovers.

If you prefer frosting on your brownies, let them cool completely then spread on your favorite chocolate icing.

Makes 8-10 servings.

Kitchen Notes: This is a first for me to make a dessert in the crockpot. I always wanted to try it and this was a good one to begin with. I personally do not eat a lot of sweets anymore so all I did was take a bite. I was tempted to eat more but I knew that was all that I needed. I made them to share and they were eaten!

When I make this again, I'm going to let them cook 15-30 minutes longer. I think then the brownies can actually be picked up to eat vs. scooping out and eating from a bowl. My girls didn't want to eat them from a bowl. A few of the brownies along the edges could be cut and eaten by hand. They are very moist and smelled great cooking.

{Six Sisters STUFF} Slow Cooker Pot Roast Sliders

Six Sisters STUFF makes the easiest, family friendly recipes! This recipe can be found on their website and in their new cookbook which is featured here on my blog.
I'm featuring their cookbook this week and giving a copy away. Click over to the Giveaway post. Before you do, leave a comment below and let me know if this is a recipe you might make.

Slow Cooker Pot Roast Sliders
(Six Sisters' Stuff cookbook)

*My adapted recipe makes this with chicken or roast beef. The below spice mixture works with either meat and differs from Six Sisters' Stuff.

Ingredients

1 3-4 lb beef roast
1 cup water
1 cup salsa
1 envelope onion soup mix
1 envelope au jus mix
12 dinner rolls or other slider rolls
Sliced Swiss cheese - 1 piece per slider
Creamy Chipotle Sauce

Whisk together water; salsa and seasoning packets. Place roast in slow cooker. Pour seasoning mixture over roast. Cook on low 8 to 10 hours, or high 4-5 hours. Shred beef. Cut each roll in half and place on a baking sheet. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on the bottom half of each roll. Place baking sheet in oven with broiler on low. Broil 1-2 minutes or until edges of the rolls ar golden and cheese has melted. (Be sure to watch them closely so they don't burn!) Remove baking sheet from oven.

Place a spoonful of shredded beef on the bottom half of the tasted roll. Spread Creamy Chipotle sauce on the top half.

Makes 12 sliders.

Kitchen Note: These are a tad messy! If you need to cut your sodium then use 1 container of dry onions in the seasoning aisle instead of the onion soup mix with same results and less salt. I made with same recipe using chicken and a few variations. Click over to the Crockpot Chicken Sliders for that recipe.

Chicken Crockpot Sliders Recipe

Pinterest is the best place to find new recipes to test. I found this Slow Cooker Three Envelope Pot Roast Sliders Recipe on Pinterest and when I clicked through I found it on one of my favorite blogs, Six Sisters' Stuff.
recipe
(Chicken Sliders with melted cheese)

Chicken Crockpot Sliders
(Adapted from Slow Cooker Three Envelope Pot Roast Sliders Recipe from Six Sisters' Stuff. If you want the Pot Roast Recipe I also tried it on my blog. It is great! )

*My adapted recipe makes this with chicken or roast beef. The below spice mixture works with either meat and differs from Six Sisters' Stuff.

Ingredients

1 3-4 lb 3 lbs chicken
1 cup water
1 cup chili sauce
1 cup salsa
1 container dry onions (seasoning aisle)
1 envelope Au Jus mix

Add all the above ingredients, except meat, into the crock pot and mix together. Add in meat. Use a spoon to add some sauce on top of meat. Cook 3 hours on high in the crock pot (or until meat is tender enough to slice or shred.) Once the meat is finished, I pull it out and shred or cut it in thin slices. I then add it back into the crockpot on warm for up to 3 or more hours. This seems to really get the meat tender and tasty and keeps it from drying out until ready to eat.

Kitchen Note: If you can't find the dry onions in the seasoning aisle near the onion powder (I buy them all the time at Walmart) you can use 1 container of onion soup mix. I do not use the prepackaged onion mix because of it high sodium content and I don't think it alters the taste of the recipe to use just the dry onions.
recipe
(Pot Roast sliders without melted cheese)

To make the sliders you need:
King's Hawaiian Rolls (love these for all our sliders) or other small roll
sliced Swiss cheese
Creamy Chipotle Sauce (a must!)
six sisters stuff recipe

Creamy Chipotle Sauce: (Adapted from Six Sisters' Stuff)

1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup chili sauce
2 tablespoons creamy horseradish sauce

Just give it a quick mix.

To make sliders-

Add meat to bottom of bun and top with 1/2 slice of cheese. You can add this to the oven or microwave to lightly melt the cheese or skip the melting. Top with sauce, add bun top and eat! They are a tad messy!
