Sunday

(January 19} Happy National Popcorn Day!

Popcorn is in the "other food group" for me. I don't eat it as much as I use to but it is my go to snack. I actually prefer it as natural as possible when I eat it at home. I have been knowns to go see a movie JUST TO EAT POPCORN when I'm craving that salty, buttery goodness only served at a movie theater. How do you like your popcorn? Here are some recipes for you to try out.

I do cook popcorn several ways. Here are a few of my ideas.

1-Microwave method

Add 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels (I prefer white) into a lunch sack. Fold over 3 times and cook in the microwave on high (or I push the popcorn button) until popping slows down to every 5 or so seconds. Sometimes I'll lightly salt, sprinkle with parmesan cheese or use a seasoning. I have been known to melt 2 tablespoons of butter with 1 teaspoon of oil to add on the popcorn before sprinkling on the seasonings. This goes for the stovetop method, too. Check here for NO MORE NAKED POPCORN.

2-Stovetop method (my favorite)

Add 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels to a stovetop pan with 1-2 tbsp of oil. This can be peanut, coconut, olive, canola, etc. whatever you prefer. Place lid on pan with medium heat and let pop. Leave the lid on until done popping. Let pop until popping slows down to every 5 seconds or so. Top as mentioned in the microwave method.

3-Grocery store microwave popcorn. This is rare but occasionally I will purchase this or someone will give them to me.

White Chocolate Pecan Popcorn Crunch

Popcorn is my go to snack. Most of the time I eat it air popped or movie theatre butter covered! Popcorn is a great addition to any appetizer snack mix. This one involves white chocolate and nuts! How do you like your popcorn?

Super easy snack mix!

White Chocolate Pecan Popcorn Crunch

Ingredients

Almond Bark melted
1 cup of pretzels
2 bags of popcorn
1 cup of Honey Nut Cheerios
1 cup of M & Ms
1 cup pecans
1 teaspoon of cinnamon, allspice or pumpkin spice (optional)

Directions

1- Melt the almond bark in the microwave according to the pack directions. You'll only need 1/4 of a package for 1 batch.
2- Spread out everything but the popcorn on a cookie sheet.
3- Pour on the almond bark and mix around. You won't need the full 1/4 melted bark because you want to pour it on lightly and let dry. Everything should just be lightly covered.
4-Once dry, break apart and mix with the popcorn.
5- Serve.

Amy Sherman’s Popcorn Crunch

I love movie theatre popcorn. Sometimes I'll call my movie buddy and ask her to go with me to the movies JUST SO that I can get popcorn! The only downside is that the popcorn is loaded with not-so-healthy fat and calories. At home I do make my own much healthier! Here is a sweet version that includes peanut butter! Hope you like it and check my recipe box for more tasty appetizer to serve at your next party!!!

I wanted to share a sweet summer snack from foodie Amy Sherman that puts a fun twist on a traditional movie-theatre favorite. Popcorn can be a caloric bomb loaded with fat, and calories (up to 1220 calories per serving!) however, Amy’s grab n’ go Popcorn Crunch packs the punch with a flavor of caramel and toasty nuts that is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Amy shares, “Sometimes the best recipes are happy accidents. I was trying to make a snack bar but over toasted the mixture of honey, sugar, peanut butter and popcorn. The result? Something much more delicious! A crunchy popcorn mix that is positively addictive.”

Instead of grabbing for the tub of buttery popcorn, package your Popcorn Crunch in cellophane bag as a healthier alternative, and it provides the perfect portion size.

Oh! And when made in the ActiFry, your sweet treat isn’t popped in loads of saturated oils like concession stand popcorn.

Amy Sherman’s Popcorn Crunch

1/4 sugar
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup natural peanut butter
4 cups popcorn

Cook sugar and honey until sugar dissolves about 3 minutes. Add peanut butter, one tablespoon at a time, to prevent it from clumping together. Cook another 2 minutes then stir and cook another 2 minutes. Add popcorn dispersing it evenly. Cook for 3 minutes then transfer to a greased sheet pan to cool.

Provided recipe.

Kernel Season's- No more naked food

We are huge popcorn fans! I've been known to go to the movies just to get movie theater popcorn. Our local town theater has a season bar loaded with all the Kernel Season's! My youngest teen, loves to create her own flavors by mixing several of their seasonings together. It really is fun. When it comes to movie snacks what are your favorite appetizers?
Kernel Seasons
Our local grocery finally carries some of the flavors. We now keep a few on hand to help our snack attacks-which can happen at anytime with 3 teen girls. Have you ever tried the Kernel Season's on popcorn? If so do you have any favorites? We just recently took on the challenge to try them on other food. I would have never thought of adding the seasons to other food. Have you? If so what?

Here are the foods that we seasoned with Kernel Season's and LIKED!
  • Scrambled eggs-Ranch and Butter
  • Steamed green beans-dab of real butter and Ranch
  • Mashed potatoes-Parmesan & Garlic

popcorn recipes

We are popcorn freaks over at my house. I make it several times a week and, yes, I eat it as a meal. I know I should include some protein, fruit, and veggies with that meal but it is usually a lunch thing. Anyhow, while this popcorn was in our home I didn't have to pop ANY!
Michele started the business back in 2007 in New Hampshire. It is a family run business which started out local but now it has popped all the way around the globe! She handcrafts small batches with quality ingredients to make it fresh from her door to your door.

Our box of popcorn was very fresh and mouth-watering tasty! I was impressed at how flavorful each popcorn was, how fresh it arrived and HOW HUGE the popcorn popped! I have no clue what type of popcorn she uses but I have NEVER seen such huge pieces of popped corn. We tried:

  • Jack Frost Jumble-So yummy! It tasted like Christmas holidays!
  • Mudslide-My favorite sweet mix! It tasted just like the drink Mudslide which I love!
  • Peanut Butter-So light and creamy! Better than eating a peanut butter sandwich.
  • Dark Chocolate Mint-Shh...it taste just like a famous Girl Scout Cookie.
  • Caramel-So smooth and perfect covering of the popcorn. Not sticky or too thick.
  • Michele's Munchie Mix-Yummy snack mix.
  • Buffalo & Ranch-My favorite salty popcorn! I LOVE Buffalo & Ranch so this was made for me. Half the corn was buffalo flavor and other ranch flavor.
  • Coconut Lime Curry-My family loves curry so this was a huge hit, too!
