Best Buttercream Frosting Recipe

For over 20 years I've been making this same buttercream frosting for all or our birthday cakes and cupcakes. It isn't super sweet and of course and has a light butter taste which melts in your mouth. Do you have any favorite frosting favorites which you use for your dessert recipes?? If so please share in the comments!
Best Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients

1 stick of butter
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon butter flavoring (we buy Wilton brand) and it is optional

Directions

1-Cream together butter, shortening, vanilla and butter flavoring with electric mixer
2-Slowing add in the powdered sugar and keep mixing. Add 1 cup of powdered sugar, mix, then 1 tablespoon of milk, mix until all used up.
3-Once it is all mixed together I mix it for another 2 minutes.

Make 3 cups of frosting

Kitchen notes
-When I want a light chocolate flavor I add in 1/4-1/2 cup of cocoa powder.
This can be mixed by hand but it takes way too long in my opinion. Make due with what you have.
-This frosting is used to spread on cupcakes, cakes or cookies. It also works great to add in food coloring (I use Wilton gels) and pipe with frosting tips. It air dries great.

Thanks to MyBlogSpark for inviting me to participate in this $55 Value Giveaway (over) featuring Betty Crocker Hershey Products. Here is the gift pack. It does include an awesome cupcake decorating kit which you see used above. It is best for cupcakes and large decorating items. I used it on a cookie cake and it worked great. It isn't for small lettering. The kit was so easy to use!

I use the above Best Buttercream Frosting recipe with the Cupcake Creation Station in this gift pack. I made a "tie dye" look but swirling in some Wilton gel food coloring.
Cookies n Creme Sandwich Cookies - Bake cookies according to box directions. Once cool add a layer of frosting between 2 cookies! Easy Peasy!

My favorite dessert is pie, any flavor, any variety. You can't go wrong with pie.

It looks like they have 6 frostings and six mixes. The smores and cookies and cream are the most unique varieties. The others are standard flavors with the Reese's or Hershey name. Still delicious, but not as unique.
