{Spring Dessert} Sweet Bread Braided Loaf Recipe

This sweet bread recipe is perfect to serve to your guest on any spring occasion. Holiday recipes like this Braided Loaf works great for large crowds.

Braided Loaf

Ingredients

6 1/2 cups flour
3 tablespoons sugar
2 packages of yeast
2 teaspoon salt
11/2 cups warm water
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoon butter

1-Mix 3 cups flour, sugar, yeast, & salt in the bowl of a stand mixer.
2-Combine yeast, warm water, milk and butter in a small bowl. Let sit for 2 minutes.
3-Slowly add this warm mixture to the stand mixer, beating for 2 minutes.
4-Add more flour, if needed, so that a soft dough has formed in the mixer.
5-Turn out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 to 8 minutes.
6-Cover bowl with a wet damp towel and let rise for 1 hour.
7-Turn dough out onto floured surface and divided into 6 portions.
8-Roll each portion into 12-16 inch rope.
9-Braid three ropes together.
10-Pinch ends to seal.
11-Repeat with remaining dough.
12-Transfer both to a greased baking sheet.
13-Cover and let rise 35 minutes.
14-Beat 1 egg with 1 tablespoon water and brush over risen bread.
15-Bake in preheated oven 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until nicely golden brown.
16-Cool on rack and enjoy.

Drizzle light icing on sweet bread right before serving.

  1. I just wanted to share what a HUGE success I've had with this recipe and the amazing response of people who just can't get enough of it. The first time I made it I nearly downed the whole loaf and thankfully gave the other away to a neighbor who had just lost their family pet. I love how the recipe makes two loves, one to keep and one to give. As simple as this recipe is it Takes the Cake for how good it is . Thank you for posting it and the friend who shared it with you. On a side note the first two steps of the recipe say to mix the yeast in, but I make sure to only mix the yeast with the warm water and milk and butter in step 2 to activate it before adding it to step one indgredients. This change might help with clarity. Thanks again for a tried and truly delicious recipe.
