Brownie Pecan Pie and Share Our Strength No Kid Hungry Campaign

I love a good bake sale! How about you? What are some of your favorite desserts you look forward to purchasing at bake sales? Have you ever hosted a bake sale to raise money?
No Kid Hungry
When I go to a bake sale, I always look for the brownies. I know that seems crazy since I'm known for making delish brownies but it is rare that I have found a brownie that I didn't like. How about you? What is your bake sale guilty pleasure?

Besides picking up goodies at a bake sale, I love contributing to bakes sales and putting on bake sales. When I'm baking for a bake sale, I always ask my girls what they want and that is what I make. Some of my favorite goodies to make for bake sales are buckeye brownies, amish friendship bread and amish friendship bread starter, cookies and the not so typical honey beer bread. I've also had request for cake balls, cake pops and cupcakes! Click on any of those links to get some of my favorites! What do you like to make for bake sales?

Because I'm known for making brownies, I decided to try a new recipe this week. How does Brownie Pecan Pie sound? If I made this for a bake sale I would serve it one of two ways. One I would serve it whole where the purchaser has to buy the entire delish pie or I would cut it into large pieces and have them in ready-to-go containers.

I picked this recipe from the Virtual Bake Sale” on the Fleischmann’s Yeast and Karo Facebook pages. Did you know that these two trusted products have helped people create beautiful homemade bread and delicious desserts for more that 100 years? Try out this recipe or click over to the virtual bake sale and pick another treat.

Brownie Pecan Pie
  • 1 cup Karo® Light Corn Syrup
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet baking chocolate, broken into pieces
  • 3 tablespoons butter OR margarine
  • 4 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked deep dish pie crust
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Combine corn sryup, sugar and salt in a small saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat.

  3. Add chocolate and butter to syrup mixture, stirring until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Let cool.

  4. Slowly pour chocolate mixture over eggs, stirring constantly. Add vanilla and pecans; mix well. Pour mixture into pie crust.

  5. Bake for about 50 minutes, until center of pie is slightly puffed; cool. If desired, top with whipped cream.
